For Alexis, a single parent living with limited vision, everyday tasks like reading a text or remembering an appointment had become increasingly difficult and daunting. She was having to rely on a cell phone to make and take calls, track all of her team and therapy appointments, and monitor her children’s various activities and needs but instead of it being helpful, the nonadaptive device–which she kept misplacing–only presented her with additional barriers in her already overwhelming day.
But this past month, thanks to your support, Alexis’s team was able to provide her with a smartwatch—one that lets her set appointment reminders; draft, send, and hear text and email messages; and answer and make phone calls just using her voice. While seemingly small, this piece of equipment—which she no longer loses because it’s strapped to her wrist—has already made a significant impact on Alexis’s day-to-day life. She feels more connected to her kids and her team, more in control of her schedule and time, and is now able to meet many of her most pressing needs without having to ask for help.
One of her workers recently shared: “Independence in daily life is something many of us take for granted, but not Alexis. I know her self-confidence has tripled since she received her new watch. She just feels more capable of handling her own life, which is helping her tackle some of her other goals. It’s been a game changer for sure.”
Thank you for helping Alexis regain her independence. You are empowering people, one tool, one life, at a time.
