LIVES CHANGED: Robert

Three years ago, Robert struggled just to make it through the day. His mental health shadowed every aspect of his life. He pushed his family away, frequently self-harmed, and engaged in high-risk behaviors, all of which resulted in him cycling in and out of the hospital and brought law enforcement to his home. His family lived in constant uncertainty, afraid of what the next day might bring.

But his family—and our team—never gave up. And in time, Robert, too, came to believe that he shouldn’t give up either.

With consistent support, trust, and countless small victories, Robert went from drowning to living. Today, Robert is on track to graduate from high school. And for over a year now, he’s not needed hospitalization, police involvement, or been physical aggressive. He has learned helpful ways to express his emotions, rather than hurtful, and he’s rebuilt more trusting relationships. And, surprising himself, he’s now able to actively participate in his own care.

As adulthood looms, Robert is working on his life skills. He wants to manage his own health and learn how to make more informed decisions, hoping to eventually live independently. As he graduates from Family Care Network services, Robert knows that this isn’t just the end of a chapter; it’s proof of how far he’s come.

One of Robert’s team members shared, “Graduation is bittersweet—sweet because we get to watch our youth soar, and bitter because we don’t get to work with them anymore.”

Today, Robert’s continuing to heal and grow, building a future defined not by his past, but by his possibilities.
