Family Care Network, Inc. (FCNI) is proud to announce the launch of Pathways to Stability, a new homelessness prevention program made possible through funding from the San Luis Obispo County Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention (HHAP-4) Program. Designed specifically for transitional-age youth (ages 18–24), the program provides early intervention to help young adults remain safely housed before a temporary setback becomes a housing crisis.
The transition to adulthood is filled with new opportunities, but it can also bring significant challenges. A lost job, unexpected expense, family conflict, or overdue rent can quickly place a young person at risk of losing their housing. Unfortunately, many of these youth do not qualify for existing assistance programs, leaving them without the support needed to weather a short-term crisis. Pathways to Stability was created to bridge this gap by providing flexible, individualized assistance that helps youth remain housed and moving forward.
Early intervention matters. Research shows that experiencing homelessness during young adulthood significantly increases the likelihood of long-term housing instability and chronic homelessness. By providing timely support before homelessness occurs, Pathways to Stability helps young adults remain connected to education, employment, behavioral health services, and the supportive relationships that are essential to building a successful future.
The program offers rapid-response services tailored to each participant’s unique circumstances, including:
- Eviction prevention assistance
- Short-term rental and utility assistance
- Landlord mediation and advocacy
- Individualized housing stabilization case management
- Connections to behavioral health, employment, education, and community resources
Pathways to Stability is built on a simple but powerful idea: the best way to end homelessness is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Family Care Network has served children, youth, adults, and families in San Luis Obispo County for nearly four decades, providing housing, behavioral health, and supportive services that strengthen individuals and communities. Pathways to Stability builds on this experience by bringing together housing stabilization, cross-system collaboration, and person-centered support. We know that a single housing crisis should not define a young person’s future.
Ending homelessness begins with preventing it. Family Care Network is honored to partner with San Luis Obispo County to provide young adults with the support they need to remain safely housed, strengthen their independence, and build brighter futures. If you know a young adult who may be at risk of losing their housing, or if you would like to learn more about Pathways to Stability, please contact Marie Bolin at (805) 858-0530 or mbolin@fcni.org.
