Gathering with others dedicated to serving children, youth and families from around the nation is always inspiring, and this year’s Family Focused Treatment Association’s (FFTA) yearly conference was no exception. In attendance were policymakers, foster care agencies, healthcare providers and foster parents, all gathered together to encourage one another and to become better equipped in the work we do to serve our nation’s most vulnerable population: foster youth.

Like its predecessors, the 31st year of the Family Care Network has been amazing, challenging and extraordinarily fruitful. We began the year with our grand celebration of the passing our 30 year milestone–oh, what a wonderful experience. We were quite humbled to be recognized by so many entities, including our San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors, all of our state representatives, officials and members of Congress, along with many local business leaders and community partners.
This month I had the immense privilege of being invited to be the Social Media Ambassador for the Family Focused Treatment Association’s (FFTA) annual conference. I anticipated that the event would be inspiring on many levels, digging into policy, advocacy, foster care, trauma-informed care, working with LGBTQ youth (and the list of relevant workshop topics goes on). While these workshops were fresh, relevant and well-presented, what really made the whole event special was all of the people I met.
